Taija Goldblatt is interested in belonging not just as a basic human need but also as a broader issue founded on structures of power. Determining one’s belonging or lack of it is done by those in power, but it is also affected by one’s circumstances and privileges. Goldblatt investigates where the definitions of belonging originate and who decides what and who belongs where.
Goldblatt’s works are digital, but handmade drawing is strongly present in them. Her works are often abstract investigations of such subjects as parenthood, the urban space and gender. She is especially interested in intermediate and borderline spaces, non-places and non-landscapes.
Taija Goldblatt (b. 1978) lives in Tampere, where she works with video, animation and drawing.
