Jussi Järvinen investigates the effects birthplace has had on their life and embodies them in works inspired by turn-of-the-millennium aesthetics. Järvinen takes a critical view of the environment in which they grew up and extends it to include society and its othering structures, power relations that have led to their own experiences of displacement. Järvinen combines archetypal jewellery shapes, text and symbols into three-dimensional works.
Born in Karstula in 1993, Jussi Järvinen currently lives and works in Helsinki. Though having firm ties to their birthplace, Järvinen feels they no longer belong to that environment. Järvinen works with mediums of sculpture, installation and fine art jewellery, varying the technique from project to project. Currently Järvinen works mostly with metal and metal casting.
